The Bell High Academic Decathlon Team was able to advance to state finals this year, being ranked 33rd in the state and 71st in the nation.

At this year’s city competition, the top ten schools were able to move on to the next round. Bell came in 9th place at the city competition, allowing them to move on to state competition. They were able to go on a six day trip to Sacramento for state competition, along with coaches Ms. Wilson and Mr. Moreno. The students on the decathlon team put in over 40 hours a week preparing for this competition for over 4 months.

All students have been on the team for only a year, including Captain Emily Martinez, a senior in Magnet.

“It’s  nerve racking since it’s all our first year, but if anything we’re more excited,” Emily said.

The decathletes were very nervous when they saw who they were competing against.

“The fact that we got to state and competed well shows that our work payed off,” said Sarah Valencia

The academic decathlon is a great way to prepare students for college. To be able to talk infront of lots of people is a great trait.

This article really show how hard work and dedication pulls off. Since it explains how the decathlon team work really hard for their competition and came in 9th place in city and they were able to go to state and then they scored 71 place. It shows that hard work, focus, and studying pays off since they were able to keep up all the way into state.

i strongly believe that decathlon doesn’t get enough enough credit. Like these are the students who are representing our school at a state level. I think student should be encouraged into joining clubs such as academic decathlon.

I believe that being in Academic Decathlon is a great way to get a jump start of college life. These students put in tremendous amounts of hours of dedication to get to state finals. Knowing that it wasn’t going to be easy when they joined , they were dedicated to finish what they started. These students are striving for greatness . They’re hard work will help them a great deal in their future.

The Academic Decathlon team puts so much work into their studies to help prepare for competitions and by being ranked 9th in city competition gave them the opportunity to advance to state competitions where they went and got ranked 71st. I feel that the decathlon team should be recognized more for their accomplishments that they truly deserved and worked hard for. By having a friend in the decathlon team ( angel silva ) he would always talk about how much work he puts in and how late he comes out of it being mentally drained and by him still completing his assignments shows how hard he pushes himself to get a great learner he deserves being captain 100%.

I actually know one of the captains, Angel Silva, and when i asked him what decathlon was he lit up and said how it was the most challenging, exciting, tough, and greatest decision he ever made. I see how it has benefited him since he has always been an active student but you can tell how he is already in the college level preparedness and how he helps others by sharing what he has learned. You can see how the team prepares harder than any class or sport just to represent Bell, academically.

Major props to these students because as a regilar student I understand the difficulties of managing class work. These student work so hard and they deserve ton be recognized more than they are. This class is welcoming to all students and provides them all with an equal opportunity.
