Boys Varsity soccer team won the South East Winter Tournament January 7th, on penalty kicks 5-4, to continue a strong season that ended in a 12-5-5 record.

The team kept up a high level of confidence, although the Southeast Tournament had its ups and downs. Coach Gallardo knows the team has an appetite for victory.

“Hungry for the win,” is how he describes them.

The boys know how to “play hard when it counts,” according to Coach Gallardo. He encourages his players to play each game as if there is “no tomorrow.”

The team lost several players to injury throughout the season, which impacted teamwork. Some of the most nerve racking games to watch according to coach Gallardo was Neuwirth, with a score of 4-3, Downey with a score of 2-1, Southeast final 2-2 PK-5-4.

The games showcased many of the players’ talents. Players that stood out during the Southeast winter tournament, according to Coach Gallardo, were senior attacking center midfielder Christian Rodriguez, junior striker Diego Manzo, junior attacking center midfielder Nathan Nunez, junior defensive center midfielder Pedro Boutista Padilla, junior defensive center midfielder Irvin Ruiz. The players never disappointed and Coach Gallardo says he “never worried” about these “experienced players.”
